Worship That Reaches: The Legacy of the Christ Tabernacle Choir

From its earliest days, Christ Tabernacle carried a deep conviction that worship is central to the life of the church. More than a moment in a service, worship through music became a powerful expression of our mission to Reach People and Grow Believers.

From its earliest days, Christ Tabernacle carried a deep conviction that worship is central to the life of the church. More than a moment in a service, worship through music became a powerful expression of our mission to Reach People and Grow Believers. That expression took root in a special way through the Christ Tabernacle Choir—a group that became both the sound and heartbeat of our church community.

The choir began with a handful of people—ordinary men and women whose lives had been transformed by the grace of God. As they lifted their voices in worship, they weren’t just singing songs—they were sharing their stories. Their voices reflected redemption, healing, and hope, and over time, the choir grew to nearly 200 members strong.

More than a musical group, the choir was a representation of our church family. It wasn’t about performance or presentation—it was about community. For so many, the choir wasn’t just a place to sing; it was a place to serve, grow, and belong.

Many who joined the choir did so for decades. We honor those faithful voices—those who gave of their time, energy, and hearts week after week. Beyond sounding great, they were people who deeply loved Jesus, loved others, and loved their church. Their faithfulness helped shape the culture of Christ Tabernacle and continues to inspire what we value at Saints Church today.

The choir also reflected the beautiful diversity of our city. Queens is the most diverse county in the United States, and the voices that came together on that stage were a reflection of Heaven—every nation, tribe, and tongue worshiping in unity. That diversity was never something we simply acknowledged—it was something we celebrated, and it became central to who we are.

As their reach grew, the choir carried the message of the Gospel far beyond our church walls. They led worship at local street meetings, shared hope in Angola State Prison, and sang on national stages like The Today Show and the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting. Their music filled homes across the country through their albums, and their unwavering commitment earned them a Dove Award, one of gospel music’s highest honors.

And yet, through it all, their hearts stayed rooted in the church. It was never about accolades or recognition—it was about worshiping God with excellence and authenticity. Their impact extended not just through the songs they sang, but through the lives they lived.

That legacy lives on at Saints Church. Worship is still central—not just what happens on stage, but in the everyday faithfulness of people who love God and serve with their whole hearts. The Christ Tabernacle Choir wasn’t just the sound of a church; it was the sound of a people who were transformed by Jesus and couldn’t help but sing about it.

And that’s something we’ll carry with us—one voice, one song, one generation to the next.
