From its earliest days, Christ Tabernacle—now Saints Church—was never content to keep the love of God contained within four walls. There was a fire in the hearts of that new congregation, fueled by their own transformation and the power of the Holy Spirit. That fire couldn’t stay hidden. It had to be shared.
Reaching Beyond the Walls
From its earliest days, Christ Tabernacle—now Saints Church—was never content to keep the love of God contained within four walls. There was a fire in the hearts of that new congregation, fueled by their own transformation and the power of the Holy Spirit. That fire couldn’t stay hidden. It had to be shared.
And so, they took the Gospel to the streets of New York City.
In neighborhoods across Brooklyn, believers set up folding chairs and sound systems on street corners. They brought popcorn and balloons for the kids, played music that drew crowds, and invited the whole neighborhood to gather. But more than entertainment, these “street meetings” were encounters with Jesus. People would share testimonies of what God had done in their lives—stories of healing, deliverance, restoration, and salvation. And always, the Gospel was preached clearly, boldly, and with love.
These moments weren’t polished or perfect, but they were powerful. It was raw, real ministry—meeting people right where they were, with no stage, no lights, and no agenda other than to point them to Jesus.
And it worked.
People were saved.
Lives were changed.
Hearts were healed.
And many of those who first heard the Gospel on the sidewalk would later walk through the doors of the church to grow deeper in their faith.
This outward, evangelistic focus was in the very DNA of Christ Tabernacle, and it continues to be at the heart of Saints Church today.
We still believe the message of Jesus is too good to keep to ourselves.
Because the church that goes beyond the walls is the church that truly changes the world.
That’s why REACH is a core part of our mission—Reach People. Grow Believers. Just as we did back then, we’re committed to taking the love and truth of the Gospel beyond the walls of our buildings. Whether it’s in the heart of New York City, or across the world in places like Eswatini, we are going where the people are—bringing hope, help, and the message of Jesus.
Our Legacy Center is one way we do this locally, serving our community with practical needs, spiritual care, and relational support. Every act of kindness, every meal served, every prayer offered—it's all part of the bigger picture of reaching people with the Gospel.
The methods may look different than they did 30 years ago, but the mission remains the same: to reach the lost, the broken, the overlooked, and the searching with the life-changing message of Jesus.
And this mission doesn’t just belong to the church staff—it belongs to all of us. Each of us has a part to play in reaching our city and our world. Maybe it’s sharing your testimony, inviting someone to church, serving in an outreach, or simply showing compassion in your daily life.
The harvest is still plentiful. The need is still great. The Gospel is still powerful.
So let’s keep reaching.
Let’s be bold.
Let’s be creative.
Let’s be compassionate.
